About

It started with a fire.

LodeIron Motor Co. is a manufacturing company in Ruidoso, New Mexico, USA. We build brushless motors for drone and UAS propulsion, and we document them well enough that you never have to take our word for anything.

Two minutes from launch to a fire marked on the map. Every motor turning that day was built overseas, because I could not get them here.

Founder's note

In July 2026 I put a drone up to help locate an active wildfire in the Sacramento Mountains. It took about two minutes to find it. I marked it on the government fire map and the crews went to work. That was a good day.

Afterward I started going through the aircraft part by part, asking what I could source domestically if I had to. Plenty of it was harder than it should be. The motors were impossible. I could not buy an American-made motor in that size. Not one. Every option traced back to the same handful of overseas factories, with spec sheets nobody could reproduce on a bench.

That bothered me for months. Public safety agencies, and the federal programs behind them, are being told to buy American airframes. The motors inside are the part everyone quietly stopped asking about, because there was no answer to give.

I run a technology company in the same town and I have spent a long career being the person who has to prove things work. So the plan was never just to build a motor in America. It was to build one where every claim on the page has a measurement behind it, and every measurement belongs to the specific unit in your hand.

That is a slower and more expensive way to start a motor company. It is also the only way I would want to buy one.

What we believe

Four things we are not willing to trade.

01

Publish the measurement, not the marketing

The industry habit is to publish the best result from the best sample on the best day. We publish what your unit did, on a stated propeller, under stated conditions, including the units that came in low.

02

Say plainly what we are not

We are not the cheapest motor available and we will not pretend to be. We are a young company with first articles on the bench, and we would rather tell you that than let you find out.

03

Make the paperwork somebody else's easy day

Quality departments, program offices, and auditors all ask the same questions. Answering them should not require a phone call, a delay, or an apology.

04

Build it where we can walk to it

Machined, wound, assembled, and tested in one building in Ruidoso, New Mexico, USA. When something goes wrong, the person who can fix it is twenty feet from the machine that made it.

Where we are

Ruidoso, New Mexico, USA.

Lincoln County, in the Sacramento Mountains, at about 2,100 meters. Fire season here is not an abstraction, and neither is the distance to the nearest overnight parts supplier. Both of those facts shape how we build.

It is not where anyone would tell you to start a motor company. It is where the problem was obvious, where the mountains gave us a hard test environment for free, and where the people who need this hardware are already flying.

Early conversations shape the first production run.

If you build airframes, fly for an agency, or run a program that needs domestic propulsion with real documentation behind it, we want to hear what you need before the tooling is locked.
